1. Cuba is turning over hundreds of state-run barber shops and beauty salons to employees in what appears to be the start of a long-expected revamping of state retail services by President Raúl Castro.

2. The
Monster Employment Index Europe noted a three percent uptick in March, returning to a level not seen since May 2009. The Monster Employment Index Europe’s longer term trends also suggests there has been a modest improvement in online recruitment activity; the Index increased 4% during the first quarter of 2010 and the annual rate of contraction slowed from the rate seen in February.

not seen since may 2009?

isn't that a bit like saying US employment surged in 1933 to levels not seen since 1931?

may 2009 was a pretty crummy time. aren't you really sort of saying "and a year on, no real progress in hiring has been made?"

A recession is very much like a shark attack. People panic and scramble out of the water when it occurs, but when waters are calm, a few dare to dip their feet and eventually, everyone will be back in the water.

I agree 2009 was a horrible year for employment, but this has always been a lagging indicator especially during the intial phases of a recovery. I take this as a positive sign and look to better years ahead.
